| | | In spite of what many may claim of themselves, it is still the rare individual who fully comprehends the value of quality over quantity. The little jewel of a house built to the highest standards, and detailed to perfection, is only appreciated at a better than surface level by a select few. This is one of those homes. The client first discovered my work in The Guild Sourcebook Of Art, a high-end directory of artists published for use by architects and interior designers. He and his wife were building a compact 1600 SF Craftsman style house on an existing foundation in Cape Cod, MA, and asked me to create a fireplace for them. Working closely via telephone, email, digital photos and overnight delivery, we were able to communicate between the East and West coasts about such things as design details, selection of materials and stonework placement. The resulting fireplace is shown here, composed of a blend of local stone, cherry wood, colored glass and low-voltage lights. Before completion of the house, the client commissioned an additional work of art: the hanging light fixture shown suspended above the sitting area. | |
